FedEx Freight, Inc. Case Settles for $92,000
FedEx Freight, Inc. paid $92,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $69,000.00 went to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $23,000.00 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. This settlement was reached in October 2016.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that FedEx Freight, Inc. had: (1) failed to register some drayage trucks in its fleet with the Drayage Truck Registry (DTR), as required by the Drayage Truck (DT) Regulation; (2) dispatched drayage trucks that either did not meet emission standards and compliance deadlines or not registered with DTR, as required by the DT Regulation; and (3) failed to report vehicles utilizing compliance options subject to the Truck and Bus (TB) Regulation. ARB documented violations as they related to DT and TB Regulations. To settle the case, FedEx Freight, Inc. agreed to the $92,000.00 penalty and to comply with DT Regulation, TB Regulation and other ARB programs.
