Semiconductor Survey
Background
The California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32) requires California to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. Pursuant to AB 32, California Air Resources Board (CARB) must adopt regulations to achieve the maximum technologically feasible and cost-effective greenhouse gas emission reductions. The Regulation to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Semiconductor Operations is a regulation that reduces greenhouse gas emissions from the semiconductor industry. It applies to owners or operators of semiconductor or related device operations that use greenhouse gases or heat transfer fluids.
CARB staff conducted a survey to collect information on the use and emissions of greenhouse gases from the semiconductor industry in 2007. CARB staff sent the survey to over 300 semiconductor operations. The completion of the survey was mandatory for all entities. The information collected was used to develop the Regulation to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Semiconductor Operations, approved by the Board in February 2009 and effective January 2010.
