Dr. Ing., h.c. F. Porsche AG and Porsche Cars North America, Inc. Settle with CARB For $6,421,897.40 in Additional Gasoline Violations
In December 2022, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) resolved another set of emissions-related violations with Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG and subsidiary Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (collectively, “Porsche”), the German sports car manufacturer.
These violations were voluntarily self-disclosed to CARB and affect roughly 33,000 of the company’s gasoline vehicles between model years 2010 and 2018. They involve the sale of unrepresentative vehicles, the use of incorrect test procedures, and the use of an unapproved auxiliary emission control device. Porsche settled its other two sets of previously self-disclosed gasoline violations in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
The total civil penalty assessed to Porsche for this settlement is $6,421,897.40. Approximately half of this amount, or $3,211,000.00, is to be paid to CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, and the remaining funds will be split between two Supplemental Environmental Projects intended to provide clean air benefits to California residents in West Oakland and the South Coast Air Basin, respectively.
