Crestliner Boats Settles For $27,750
In April 2022, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Crestliner Boats, with its principal location in Northeast Otsego, Minnesota for violation of CARB’s air quality regulations. Crestliner Boats manufactured for sale, advertised, offered for sale, sold, and delivered into California noncertified Spark-Ignition Marine Watercraft (SIMW).
Crestliner Boats certified its evaporative system under the incorrect evaporative family. It did not have California certification for its evaporative systems, which is required to sell or offer for sale vessels in California. A total of 11 noncompliant vessels were sold into California in violation of California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2850, et seq.
To settle the case, Crestliner Boats agreed to the penalty of $2,522.73 per noncompliant unit for a penalty amount of $27,750. The full settlement amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
Crestliner Boats was cooperative in that it self-disclosed the noncompliance, submitted requested documentation, has a history of compliance, obtained SIMW Evaporative System certification, received a CARB Executive Order (EO) to avoid future violations, and assisted in the mutual settlement of this case.
