$18,000 in Fines Paid by The City of Benicia
In December 2007, The City of Benicia paid $18,000 in penalties for violating air quality regulations. An audit performed by the ARB showed that the City of Benicia failed to properly self-inspect diesel vehicles to assure that those vehicles met state smoke emission standards and to achieve required fleet emissions reductions, and also failed to submit reports as required by law. ARB staff documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP). To settle the case, the City of Benicia agreed to the $18,000 penalty and to comply with the PSIP, Transit, and other ARB programs. This case was closed in December 2007.
