Project Details
The Urban Collaborative Project’s grant term ran from December 2020 to September 2021. For the needs assessment effort, The Urban Collaborative Project used a variety of resident surveys and social media tools to engage and conduct outreach to the community groups and community members. Participants included residents, businesses, or other stakeholders who may benefit or be affected by a new clean mobility service in the community, with a particular focus on the disadvantaged communities of Las Chollas View and Ocean View. The Urban Collaborative Project worked with the Transit Equity Working Group to build in the existing community assets identified in previous projects. It also collaborated with nonprofit organizations in the project area, and residents helped gather the answers for the assessments.

Community Details
The project focused on 7 census tracts within the disadvantaged communities of Las Chollas View and Ocean View in San Diego. The residents in these census tracts are low-income, English as a second language majority, younger families, with an average household income of $41,000, and are dependent on mass transit services. However, due to cost, residents carpool as much as possible. Older adults living in these communities also struggle with transportation costs. The region is sprawling which causes community members to live further away from job centers, medical services, and grocery stores.
