CARB has verified Engine Control Systems (hereafter referred to as CDTi) Purifilter^TM Plus as a Level 3 Plus passively and actively regenerated diesel emission control system for use with certain on-road vehicles with model years between 1993 and 2010. Approved engines are certified to a particulate matter emission level equal to or less than 0.1 grams per brake horsepower-hour, and may or may not be equipped with exhaust gas recirculation systems. The executive order excludes EGR engines certified with diesel oxidation catalysts.  Purifilter^TM Plus uses a catalyzed silicon carbide wall-flow filter for passive regeneration and electric heating elements for active regeneration. It achieves an 85 percent reduction in emissions of diesel particulate matter.  Purifilter^TM Plus is compatible with on-road vehicles using diesel fuel that contains up to 20 percent biodiesel.  Specific conditions for which Purifilter^TM Plus has been approved may be found in the executive order below.
