Seminar on Best Practices and Capacity Building for Local Government Implementation of Climate Action Policies: On October 22 via remote access, CARB will host a seminar where Dr. Catherine Brinkley from University of California, Davis, and Dr. Michael Boswell from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, will present final findings from a two-year project on Best Practices and Capacity Building for Local Government Implementation of Climate Action Policies.
Regional Listening Sessions on Zero-Emission Space and Water Heater Standards: On October 22 via remote access, and on October 23 in Redwood City, CARB will host a listening session in order to engage the public and inform the development of zero greenhouse-gas-emissions standards for space and water heaters. These events are part of a series of listening sessions CARB is holding, some with co-hosts, throughout the State in the hopes of sharing information, hearing public thoughts, and identifying possible solutions. The session in Redwood City will be co-hosted by Climate Resilient Communities.
Community Input Session — California’s Clean Car Future: On October 23 in Sacramento, CARB, along with Valley Vision, will host a community input session as part of a series of meetings to solicit the public’s feedback and help shape regulations geared toward reducing air pollution from gasoline-powered cars and light trucks, and enhancing the process of purchasing and driving a zero-emission vehicle.
Clean Air Leadership Talks for the Haagen-Smit Awards: On October 23 in Sacramento, CARB will host the Haagen-Smit Awards, which are presented annually to those who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of clean air, climate change, technology, and related policies. The Haagen-Smit Clean Air Awards have been presented since 2001. Winners have ranged from research scientists to educators to public agency administrators. During the Clean Air Talks, the four recipients will provide an overview of their career achievements.
Public Workshop on Updates to Official On-Road Mobile Source Emissions Inventory Model: On October 23 via remote access, CARB will host a public workshop to discuss updates to the agency’s official on-road mobile source emissions inventory model, EMFAC. This will be the third of a series of four workshops. Staff will continue to discuss updates to methodologies and data sources for the next version of the model, EMFAC202Y. They will also discuss the upcoming Beta release that will reflect updates since the August 2024 Alpha Release.
Public Workshop on Release of a Statewide Aircraft Emissions Inventory Model: On October 24 via remote access, CARB will host public workshop to discuss the development of the first statewide aircraft emissions inventory, the California Aircraft Emissions Inventory 2024 (CAI2024). Staff will solicit feedback on the approach, methodology, and additional data sources reflecting the activity, fleet makeup, or other data used to develop the new aircraft emissions inventory.
Zero-Emission-Vehicle Tour Western Truck Center: On October 24 in Stockton, CARB will participate in the Zero-Emission-Vehicle Tour Western Truck Center event. CARB staff will be available to assist fleet operators by providing information on alternative-fuel vehicles, vehicle and infrastructure incentives and grants, energy, and regulations.
Board Meeting: On October 24 in Sacramento and via webcast, the Board will hear the following agenda items: 1) the 2023 Haagen-Smit Award Ceremony; 2) an informational update on Federal Clean Transportation Funding Programs; 3) proposed updated Program Guidelines for Funding Agricultural Replacement Measures for Emission Reductions (FARMER); 4) proposed revisions to the Carl Moyer Memorial Air Quality Standards Attainment Program Guidelines; 5) and proposed amendments to the Advanced Clean Trucks Regulation and Zero-Emission Powertrain Certification test procedure.
