Bekins Moving Solutions, Inc. Case Settles for $9,750
In March 2014, Bekins Moving Solutions, Inc., agreed to pay $9,750.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $7,312.00 has gone to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $2,438.00 has gone to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Bekins Moving Solutions, Inc., failed to properly self-inspect their diesel fleet to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards, and to comply with the Truck and Bus Regulation. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and the Engine Model Year Compliance Schedule for the Truck and Bus Regulation. To settle the case, Bekins Moving Solutions, Inc. agreed to the $9,750.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP program.
