Beck’s Furniture Settles For $8,100
In October 2023, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Beck’s Furniture, located in Rancho Cordova, California, in the amount of $8,100 for the company’s violation of the Airborne Toxic Control Measure to Reduce Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products (ATCM, or Composite Wood Regulation), as codified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 93120 et seq.
Beck’s Furniture violated the Composite Wood Regulation requirement by purchasing furniture made of composite wood without taking reasonable precautions. Beck’s Furniture failed to ensure that its products were compliant with the applicable emissions standards as set forth in the Composite Wood Regulation.
To come into compliance, Beck’s Furniture has instructed each supplier that the products they supply to Beck’s Furniture must comply with the applicable emissions standards, and Beck’s Furniture will obtain written documentation from each supplier confirming their products are compliant. The total penalty amount will be deposited into CARB's Air Pollution Control Fund for the purposes of carrying out CARB's duties and functions to ensure the integrity of its air pollution control programs.
