Bassani Manufacturing Case Settles for $3,000.00
Prior to January 1, 2013, performance exhaust company Bassani Manufacturing (Bassani) was determined by the Air Resources Board (ARB) to have sold, offered for sale, and/or advertised aftermarket exhaust systems that replaced original emission control part(s) used primarily for the reduction of emissions from highway motorcycles. Such aftermarket exhaust systems must be exempted from California’s anti tampering laws before they can be legally sold in the State. However, Bassani did not obtain the corresponding exemption Executive Orders from ARB in this regard.
Bassani fully cooperated with the consequent investigation and agreed to settle with the Air Resources Board in May 2013. The resulting civil penalty of $3,000 was applied to the company’s 12 non-exempt aftermarket exhaust systems at an approximate rate of $250 per unit.
