Badger Creek Ltd. Case Settles for $250,000
In July 2014, Badger Creek Limited (Badger Creek) agreed to pay $250,000.00 in penalties for violating California’s Regulation for Reducing Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) Emissions from Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) (California Code of Regulations, title 17, sections 95350 et seq.).
The Regulation for Reducing SF6 Emissions from Gas Insulated Switchgear establishes limits on annual SF6 emission rates. For 2012, the second year in which the regulation was in effect, the maximum allowable annual emission rate is nine percent. Badger Creek reported that it exceeded the 2012 emission rate limit. Badger Creek has repaired the leaking GIS equipment and implemented changes to their monitoring and SF6 inventory business practices.
