Aebi & Co. AG Maschinenfabrik Settles For $70,312
In December of 2020, Aebi & Co. AG Maschinenfabrik (Aebi), based in Switzerland, settled its case with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Aebi, an equipment manufacturer, disclosed that it had imported off-road equipment into California containing off-road compression ignition engines that did not meet all applicable certification standards. The subsequent investigation revealed that Aebi had imported ten uncertified off-road compression ignition engines in violation of California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2420 (a)(3).
Aebi cooperated with CARB during the agency’s investigation. The resulting settlement requires the company to pay a $7,031 per unit penalty resulting in a total penalty of $70,312. Aebi has agreed to provide $35,156 of the total penalty to a Supplemental Environmental Project entitled the Skill Development Program for Rejuvenation of Urban Trees (SPROUT). Aebi agrees that it shall comply with all requirements of the Off-Road Compression Ignition Regulation, and California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2420, et seq.
