Advanced Packaging Case Settled for $1,000
On February 25, 1998, Consumer Products staff, while performing scheduled sampling of regulated "Aerosol Coating Products" being offered for sale in the retail market, obtained undated containers of World of Color 100% Acrylic Enamel for testing. Test results indicated four violations of the 67 percent Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) standard for Clear Coatings (effective date 1/8/96). On December 15, 1998, staff obtained five more containers of the spray paint for testing. The manufacturer discovered the cause of the violations and took corrective action in October 1998. A Report of Violation was issued on April 12, 1999. On August 11, 1999, after Consumer Products staff completed their investigation, the case was turned over to Legal for litigation or settlement. Legal settled this case for $1,000 on March 22, 2002.
