In October, 2006 and May, 2007, Enforcement staff obtained samples of a 5-gallon diesel portable fuel container and a 5-gallon kerosene portable fuel container from partsamerica.com (a company used by both CSK Auto and Advance Stores Company to process online orders). Both portable fuel containers purchased did not comply with California's Portable Fuel Containers and Spouts Regulations. Advance Auto Company settled their portion of the violation for a payment of $5,000 on July 30, 2007. Advance Stores Company, Inc. does not operate retail outlets in California, but was liable for the sale as they manage and operate the partsamerica.com website from which the samples were purchased (via kragen.com).
