$10,000 in Fines Paid by VP Racing Fuels
ChevronPhillips in Houston makes racing fuel which is imported into California by VP Racing Fuels. Because this fuel is available for street use, it must meet CARB standards. Through inquiries from ChevronPhillips regarding possible methods for certifying high-oxygen fuels, we learned that in early May 2004, two truckloads of non-complying gasoline had been brought into California. Further investigation revealed that the predictive model notifications provided by VP showed oxygen contents of 2.0 percent to 3.0 percent, but the fuel's actual oxygen content was 3.65 percent. At a settlement conference held on February 27, 2007, the case was settled in principle for $10,000.
