March 26, 2026 - Senate Bill 54 Plastic Mitigation Fund Kick Off Webinar
The California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), in partnership with the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), and the California Strategic Growth Council (SGC), invites you to a Thursday, March 26, 2026, kickoff webinar to learn about the Plastic Pollution Mitigation Fund (PPMF).
The meeting will be held via Zoom on:
Date: Thursday, March 26, 2026
Time: 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time (PT)
Remote: Zoom Registration
As a key component of the landmark Senate Bill 54 (the Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act), the PPMF shifts the responsibility for pollution cleanup from the public to the producers of single-use plastic materials. Beginning in 2027, the fund will receive $500 million annually for 10 years to mitigate the environmental and public health impacts of plastic pollution.
Why your participation matters:
The law requires that these funds prioritize the communities most affected by pollution.
Specifically:
- Upon appropriation by the legislature, 60% of the fund is dedicated to monitoring and reducing environmental justice and public health impacts, with at least 75% of that amount directly benefiting disadvantaged, low-income, or rural communities.
- Upon appropriation by the legislature, 40% of the fund is dedicated to restoring and protecting the natural environment, with at least 50% providing benefits to these same communities.
CalEPA, CNRA, and SGC want to hear your priorities and ideas to ensure this fund is accessible and provides meaningful benefits to your community.
