A & U Mex-Export, Inc. Settles For $40,750
In August 2020, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) settled a case for $40,750 with A & U Mex-Export, Inc. (A & U), located in Calexico, California. CARB documented violations by A & U for failure to verify that each hired or dispatched vehicle was in compliance with the Truck and Bus Regulation and failure to comply with the recordkeeping requirements, under California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2025(x)(2) (13 CCR § 2025(x)(2)). A & U entered into a Settlement Agreement with CARB and agreed to pay a total penalty amount of $40,750 for their violations. As part of the settlement, A & U has agreed to provide $20,375 of the total penalty to a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) to install and maintain high-performance air filtration systems in Calexico schools. These schools are in an AB 617 community, an area disproportionately affected by air pollution. In addition, A & U agreed to not operate or direct the operation of any vehicle subject to the Truck and Bus Regulation without obtaining documentation demonstrating that each vehicle hired or dispatched complies with the Truck and Bus Regulation prior to hire.
