Tesoro Refining & Marketing Company Settles For $133,000.00

In August 2019, Tesoro Refining & Marketing Company (Tesoro) agreed to pay $133,000 in penalties for violating the California Reformulated Gasoline Regulation (CaRFG).  In April 2017, staff from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Enforcement Division discovered a violation after conducting routine sampling at the Tesoro Vinvale Terminal.   CARB analyzed and discovered a sample with a result over the Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) downstream cap limit.  The noncompliant gasoline was sold, supplied, offered for sale, or transported for a period of six days.

The civil penalty was paid into two funds, with $66,500 to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, and $66,500 to the South Coast Air Quality Management District to fund a Supplemental Environmental Project that installs air filtration systems in schools.
