Sunset Waste Systems, Inc. Settlement
Sunset Waste Systems, Inc. Case Settles for $13,200
In February 2012, Sunset Waste Systems, Inc. agreed to pay $13,200.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $9,900.00 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $3,300.00 will go to Peralta Community College District to fund emissions education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology program
An investigation by the ARB showed that Sunset Waste Systems, Inc. failed to comply with the solid waste collection vehicle rule by neglecting to install legally required emission-reduction devices by applicable compliance dates. Sunset Waste Systems, Inc. also failed to properly self-inspect their diesel vehicles to assure that vehicles met state smoke emission standards and failed to properly report and label their Off-Road Diesel Vehicles. ARB documented violations as they related to the Solid Waste Collection Vehicle Program (SWCV), Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), and the Off Road Diesel Vehicle Program (ORDV). To settle the case, Sunset Waste Systems, Inc. agreed to the $13,200.00 penalty and to comply with the SWCV, PSIP, and ORDV in addition to other ARB programs.
