Smarter Tools, Inc. Case Settles for $507,000.00

In January 2014, Smarter Tools, Inc. (Smarter Tools) agreed to pay $507,000.00 in penalties to the California Air Pollution Control Fund for violating air quality regulations. An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Smarter Tools had non-complaint generators that were not legal for sale in California. To settle the case, Smarter Tools agreed to the $507,000.00 penalty and to comply with the 13 California Code of Regulations section 2400(a)(2). This settlement takes into consideration that Smarter removed the units in question and was proactive and cooperative throughout the enforcement process.
