The Sherwin-Williams Company Settles For $9,000
In April 2023, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with The Sherwin-Williams Company (Sherwin-Williams), with its principal location in Cleveland, Ohio, for the company’s violation of the Aerosol Coating Regulation under California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94520 et seq.
An investigation conducted by CARB staff revealed that Sherwin-Williams sold, supplied, offered for sale and/or manufactured for use in California, an aerosol coating product that did not meet administrative requirements specified in the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94524(b)(1). To settle the case, Sherwin-Williams agreed to a penalty of $9,000 for one day of violation.
The penalty amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. Sherwin-Williams fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter and has modified the product to come into compliance.
