The Save Mart Companies Case Settles for $29,800

The Save Mart Companies (Modesto, California) sold, supplied, and/or offered for sale a non-compliant General Purpose Cleaner: Nonaerosol in California. Enforcement staff purchased a sample of Sunny Select Glass Cleaner that contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) that exceeded the 0.5 percent limit for the General Purpose Cleaner: Nonaerosol category specified in title 17, California Code of Regulations section 94509(a). The violation resulted in 2.36 tons of excess VOC emissions, based upon the formulation and the sales information provided by Save Mart. Save Mart agreed to pay a penalty of $29,800 and has modified the product to be a compliant glass cleaner.
