Sanco Industries, Inc. Settles For $55,000
In June 2024, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Sanco Industries, Inc. (Sanco), with its principal location in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for the company’s violations of the Regulation for Reducing Emissions from Consumer Products (Consumer Products Regulation), as codified in the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94507 et seq.
CARB Enforcement staff conducted an investigation that revealed Sanco sold, supplied, offered for sale and/or manufactured for use in California, a general purpose cleaner (nonaerosol) and a nonselective terrestrial herbicide (nonaerosol) that contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) exceeding the regulatory VOC standards for the General Purpose Cleaner and Nonselective Terrestrial Herbicide categories, respectively, specified in the Consumer Products Regulation (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 17, § 94509, subd. (a)). In addition, Sanco failed to display the date of manufacture on the general purpose cleaner product, as required by the Consumer Products Regulation (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 17, § 94512, subd. (b)).
Sanco fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter and ceased sales of noncompliant products in California. The penalty of $55,000, for 3.54 tons of excess VOC emissions and three days of product dating violation, will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
