San Joaquin Regional Transit District Case Settles for $32,250.00
In October 2012, San Joaquin Regional Transit District (SJRTD), based in Stockton, agreed to pay $35,250.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $26,437.50 will go to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $8,812.50 will go to Peralta Community College District to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that SJRTD failed to comply with the Transit Fleet Vehicle (TFV) rule by neglecting to install legally required emission reduction devices by applicable compliance dates. Further, SJRTD failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission testing standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the TFV regulation and Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP). To settle the case, SJRTD agreed to pay the $35,250.00 penalty and to comply with the TFV and PSIP requirements.
