Rutland Fire Clay Company Case Settles for $5,000

In February 2019, a case was settled with Rutland Fire Clay Company (Chapel Hill, North Carolina) for selling Charcoal Lighter Material products in California that did not meet the certification requirements specified in the Consumer Product Regulation, title 17, California Code of Regulations section 94509(h). Rutland Fire Clay Company paid $5,000.00 in penalties for uncertified charcoal lighter materials. To come into compliance, Rutland no longer offers the products for commerce as charcoal lighter materials in California.
