Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling L.L.C. Settles For $137,000
In July 2021, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling L.L.C. (Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling) in the amount of $137,000 for violating CARB’s air quality regulations. The $137,000 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
An investigation conducted by CARB staff showed that Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling failed to meet the applicable smoke-testing requirements for many heavy-duty diesel vehicles in their fleet. CARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 13 § 2190 et seq.). To settle the case, Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling agreed to the penalty of $500 per PSIP violation for a total of $137,000.
Terms of the settlement include a requirement for Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling to attend a smoke-test training course, submit PSIP tests for the entire applicable fleet for calendar year 2021, and to comply with all other CARB regulations going forward. Reyes Coca-Cola fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter.
