"Toxic Air Contaminant and Greenhouse Gas Measurements near Oil and Gas Operations and Proximate Communities," FluxSense, May 2022.
FluxSense Inc. performed this study under contract with CARB. The study was designed to measure (1) emissions of air pollutants from oil and gas-related sources and (2) concentrations of air pollutants both with increasing distance from sources and within communities near oil and gas operations. Measured pollutants included methane, alkanes, benzene, and BTEX (total of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene). Measurements were taken from a mobile vehicle in three surveys between 2019 and 2021 covering portions of the San Joaquin Valley and the South Coast. In addition to the measurements, FluxSense used computer modeling to estimate the rate of pollutant concentration decrease with increasing distance from two emission sources.
