The Short-Lived Climate Pollutant (SLCP) Reduction Strategy, approved by the Board in March 2017, is California's plan for reducing emissions of high global-warming potential gases with short atmospheric lifetimes. SLCPs include the greenhouse gases methane and hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), and anthropogenic black carbon. State law mandates a 40 percent reduction in methane and HFC emissions by 2030 and a 50 percent reduction in anthropogenic emissions of black carbon by 2030.
