Pilot Travel Centers LLC Settles For $8,000
In January 2025, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Pilot Travel Centers LLC (Pilot Travel Centers) of Knoxville, Tennessee reached a settlement for violations related to CARB’s Regulation for Reducing Emissions from Consumer Products (Consumer Products Regulation), as specified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, sections 94507 et seq.
An investigation by CARB staff revealed that Pilot Travel Centers sold, supplied, offered for sale, or manufactured for use in California, Automotive Windshield Washer Fluid products that were not in compliance with CARB’s Consumer Products Regulation. SPLASH Original Blue (-20) Windshield Wash contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that exceeded the standards specified in the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94509(a). The violation contributed excess VOC emissions in the Automotive Windshield Washer Fluid (Nontype “A” areas) category.
Pilot Travel Centers fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter and removed the SPLASH Original Blue (-20) Windshield Wash from the California marketplace immediately upon notice. The full penalty amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
