Pai Tour and Bus, Inc. Case Settles for $15,000
Pai Tour and Bus, Inc. will pay $15,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $11,250.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $3,750.00 will go to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. This settlement was reached in October 2016.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Pai Tour and Bus: (1) failed to properly self-inspect their diesel buses to ensure the buses met state smoke emission standards, and (2) failed to comply with the Particulate Matter Best Available Control Technology requirements required for their buses. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program and Truck and Bus Regulation. To settle the case, Pai Tour and Bus agreed to the $15,000.00 penalty and to comply with the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program, Truck and Bus Regulation, and other applicable ARB regulations.
