$220,000 in Fines Paid by Pacific Gas and Electric
Pacific Gas and Electric paid $220,000 in penalties in June 2007 for violating air quality regulations. $165,000 of the penalty went to the California Air Pollution Fund, and the remaining $55,000 went to the Peralta Community College District for distribution to colleges participating in the California Council on Diesel Education and Technology training programs. An investigation by the ARB showed that Pacific Gas and Electric failed to properly keep records showing that they smoke tested their diesel vehicles, thus assuring that those vehicles met state smoke emission standards. ARB personnel documented violations of the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP). To settle the case, Pacific Gas and Electric agreed to the $220,000 penalty and to comply with the PSIP and other related regulations.
