The current verified technologies are listed below. Below each system is a list of engine families for which devices have been approved (engine series names are provided for reference in most cases). For more detailed information or to purchase the device, please contact the device manufacturer directly. New information will be posted as additional systems are verified.
Level 2 - 50 Percent or Greater Reduction in Particulate Matter
Rypos
CARB has verified Rypos, Inc. Active Diesel Particulate Filter (ADPF) as a Level 2 Plus for use with marine harbor craft. The Rypos ADPF's verification applies to certain diesel engines that are either certified marine engine originally manufactured from model year 2004 to 2009, marine engines modified with the Clean Cam Technology System (CCTS) technology, or other marine engines meeting the terms and conditions specified in the Executive Order.
Approved engines must be a certified marine engine with certified particulate matter (PM) emission levels less than or equal to 0.2 g/bhp-hr or a marine engine having known particulate matter (PM) emission levels less than or equal to 0.2 g/bhp-hr (as tested on an appropriate steady-state certification cycle – similar to ISO 8178 E3 or E5), are rated over 50 horsepower, and are not equipped with exhaust gas recirculation systems. Specific conditions for which the Rypos ADPF has been approved may be found in the Executive Order below.
The Rypos ADPF consists of active flow-through filters made out of an electrically conductive sintered metal fiber medium. It is microprocessor controlled with a backpressure control system, an electrical control circuit, and a backpressure warning indicator Marine harbor craft owners should read about the specific conditions for which the ADPF has been approved in the Executive Order, below Specific engine models and families that apply are listed in the attachment below.
