Monetary incentives from federal, state, and local sources have a history of demonstrating the feasibility of cleanest available technologies. Funding also helps to increase adoption of the newest technologies before they are required. Regulations also create strong incentives for businesses to develop or adopt cleanest available technologies when they can be used for compliance or have monetary value. The following programs are examples of traditional incentive programs that provide funding for the cleanest available technology, including zero-emission trucks.

Commercial Clean Vehicle Federal Tax Credit Businesses and tax-exempt organizations that buy a qualified commercial clean vehicle may qualify for a clean vehicle tax credit of up to $40,000 under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) 45W The maximum credit is $7,500 for qualified vehicles with gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWRs) of under 14,000 pounds and $40,000 for all other vehicles. Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project Vouchers are used to purchase zero-emission off-road equipment such as forklifts, transport refrigeration units, construction and agricultural equipment, and terminal trucks.
