About
The Roadmap to Reduce Air Toxics will serve as the agency’s strategy for addressing air toxics. This strategy and its implementation intend to achieve several critical outcomes:
- Modernize the air toxics program to reestablish proactive, transparent, and community focused strategies that are health protective.
- Strengthen CARB’s ability to address cumulative impacts and emerging pollutants.
- Institute a decision framework to identify pollutants of concern and to prioritize appropriate emission reduction strategies.
- Build on lessons learned through the Community Air Protection Program to deliver measurable public health benefits and demonstrate accountability to the communities we serve.
- Build a durable process that integrates statutory mandates, community needs, and scientific best practices.
- Further develop and maintain a robust partnership with the air districts and communities to co-create strategies to address community-level toxics exposure and emerging toxics of concern.
- Maintain CARB’s programs to electrify on- and off-road mobile sources. These programs will remain a critical near-term strategy for reducing diesel particulate matter emissions – an identified toxic air contaminant.
Our actions will reflect the diverse needs of Californians. This requires strong collaboration, including ongoing, meaningful engagement with Tribal governments, community groups, air districts, other state agencies, industry, and the general public, as well as input on how to communicate effectively with your community.
