Ormat Nevada Inc., regarding Wister Solar PV Park Settles For $170,000
In February 2026, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Ormat Nevada Inc., regarding its solar entity Wister Solar PV Park (collectively, ONI), with its principal business office in Reno, Nevada, for violation of the Regulation for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Gas-Insulated Equipment (SF6 GIE Regulation), as codified in the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 95350 et seq.
An investigation conducted by CARB Enforcement Division (ED) staff revealed that ONI exceeded the maximum annual emissions rate for Reporting Year 2023, and also failed to meet the applicable reporting requirements for Reporting Year 2022. To settle the case, ONI agreed to an average penalty of $1,900 per unit, resulting in a total settlement amount of $170,000. The full amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. Terms of the settlement also require ONI to comply with all other CARB regulations going forward.
ONI worked cooperatively with CARB staff to quickly resolve this matter. Further, they have had no prior compliance issues, and implemented additional measures to reduce the potential of any future violations.
