Nunez Transport, Inc. Case Settles for $48,200
Nunez Transport, Inc. will pay $48,200.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $36,150.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $12,050.00 will go to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. This settlement was reached in May, 2016.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Nunez Transport, Inc. failed to bring ten (10) of their heavy duty diesel trucks into compliance with the applicable in-use performance standards, and failed to ensure that one (1) engine had legible emission control label (ECL) affixed to the engine, and failed to bring eleven (11) Transport Refrigeration Unit into compliance. ARB documented violations as they related to the Truck and Bus (TB) Regulation, the Emission Control Label requirements of the Heavy-Duty Vehicle Emissions Control System Inspections regulation, and the Transport Refrigeration Unit regulation (TRU). To settle the case, Nunez Transport, Inc. agreed to the $48,200.00 penalty and to comply with TB, ECL, TRU and other ARB programs.
