NRG El Segundo Operations, Inc. Case Settles for $200,000
The Regulation for Reducing Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) Emissions from Gas Insulated Switchgear (SF6 –GIS Regulation) establishes limits on annual SF6 emission rates. NRG operates a power plant in El Segundo, California, with ten gas insulated switchgear containing a total of 3,803 pounds of SF6. NRG exceeded the 2012 annual emission limitation. In this matter ARB concluded there were a number of mitigating factors including: the fact that this was a first time violation and NRG cooperated fully with the investigation.
