ExxonMobil Oil Corporation Settles For $493,500

In July 2019, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and ExxonMobil Oil Corporation (ExxonMobil) reached a settlement in the amount of $493,500.  ExxonMobil failed to accurately report greenhouse gas emissions data related to Complexity Weighted Barrel production data at the Torrance Refinery for reporting periods 2013 and 2014 (California Code of Regulations, title 17, § 95113).  The error was a result of a calculation using the wrong correction factor for a meter measuring product output.  The reports remained inaccurate for 705 days.  ExxonMobil discovered and disclosed the error to CARB, and thereafter fully cooperated with CARB’s investigation.
