In 2013, CARB approved the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District 2013 Plan for the 1-Hour Ozone Standard (2013 Attainment Plan). The 2013 Attainment Plan sets out the strategy to attain the federal 1979 1-hour ozone standard of 0.12 parts per millionby 2017. In 2016, U.S. EPA determined that the San Joaquin Valley had attained the 1-hour ozone standard based on air quality data from 2012-2014. In 2023, CARB submitted to U.S. EPA the 2023 Maintenance Plan and Redesignation Request (2023 Maintenance Plan) which demonstrated continued attainment of the standard based on 2020-2022 air quality data and requested that U.S. EPA redesignate the San Joaquin Valley as attainment for the 1-hour ozone standard.
