RIVERSIDE – A number of clean air luminaries and industry and thought leaders will gather in Riverside on Thursday, May 17 to recognize 50 years of progress in cleaning California’s skies and discuss the crucial role new vehicle technology and developments will play in continuing the state’s leadership over the coming half century. The 50th Anniversary Symposium is hosted by the UC Riverside College of Engineering – Center for Environmental Research and Technology as part of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the California Air Resources Board.

To underscore the crucial importance of technology in achieving California’s clean air and climate goals, there will be a rare display of zero-emission cars, trucks, and buses that are just now beginning to enter the marketplace. One question discussed at the Symposium will be how best to accelerate their market penetration.

What: A gathering of luminaries from academia, government and industry will discuss the interplay of research, policy and technology in continuing to fight smog and reduce climate-changing gases from cars, trucks, and buses.

When: Thursday, May 17. The program starts at 10:30, includes a luncheon and Technology Showcase.

Visuals: The Technology Showcase will feature cutting-edge products from a variety of manufacturers, including Tesla, Thor, Horiba, AVL, and Enerblu. There will also be an interactive virtual reality experience of the planned CARB emissions testing facility, to be part of CARB’s new Southern California headquarters, set to open in 2020 in Riverside.
