SACRAMENTO – The California Air Resources (ARB) will hold a public meeting to discuss the release of risk reduction plans for diesel-fueled engines and vehicles:
Thursday, July 13
1:30 p.m.
Air Resources Board
Lower Level Hearing Room
2020 L Street, Sacramento
ARB staff and Diesel Risk Management subcommittees will discuss the findings and recommended control strategies for diesel-fueled engines. The report outlines strategies to clean up all diesel engines in California, including retrofitting existing engines with particulate matter (PM) traps and requiring new diesel engines to come equipped with them.
In 1998 the ARB listed diesel particulate matter emissions as a Toxic Air Contaminant (TAC). Findings of the risk assessment revealed that diesel PM can cause health problems ranging from respiratory illness, heart problems, asthma, cancer and even death.
