OAKLAND– Staff of the California Environmental Protection Agency's Air Resources Board (ARB) will hold a community meeting Saturday, March 10, to discuss a special air monitoring project to be installed at Lockwood Elementary School.

Based on the community's environmental interest, the school's close proximity to freeways and industry, and the geography of the area, Lockwood Elementary has been chosen as the primary air monitoring site for the Fruitvale community. Community members are encouraged to attend an informational meeting to learn more about children's environmental health protection, provide suggestions, and ask questions of the ARB staff.

Children can be more at risk from air pollution's harmful health effects. The children’s health study is an effort to evaluate current monitoring procedures and will include a review of ambient air quality standards, additional air monitoring, and the identification and control of air toxics. Lockwood Elementary is one of six locations throughout the state chosen for this one-year study.
