Mitsubishi Logisnext Americas Inc. Settles For $129,000
In December 2023, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Mitsubishi Logisnext Americas, Inc. (Mitsubishi), with its principal location in Houston, Texas, for the company’s violation of the Off-Road Large Spark Ignition Engines Regulation (LSI Regulation), as codified in the California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2430-2439 et seq.
An investigation conducted by CARB staff showed that Mitsubishi delivered and imported Large Spark Ignited (LSI) engines equipped in Mitsubishi forklifts that did not comply with the requirements of the LSI Regulation. All LSI engines sold in California must obtain an Executive Order pursuant to the certification requirements and protocols (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 13, § 2430(a)(2)) and meet the exhaust emissions standards (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 13, § 2433).
To settle the case, Mitsubishi agreed to the penalty of $3,000 per violation for a total penalty of $129,000. The total penalty amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. Mitsubishi fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter, and has agreed to not install, sell, offer for sale, or advertise in California, any LSI engines that do not meet certification requirements.
