Makita U.S.A., Inc. Case Settles for $230,000
In October 2015, Makita U.S.A., Inc. (Makita) agreed to pay $230,000.00 in penalties to the Air Resources Board, with $200,000 going to the California Air Pollution Control Fund and $30,000 going to the Foundation for California Community Colleges Small Engine Supplemental Environmental Project. Makita self-disclosed that they had sold non-compliant generators used in various 2013 and 2014 model year garden and lawn equipment that were not legal for sale in California. To settle the case, Makita agreed to the $230,000.00 penalty and to comply with the 13 California Code of Regulations section 2400(a)(2). This settlement takes into consideration that Makita removed the units in question and was proactive and cooperative throughout the enforcement process.
