Kleen Products, Incorporated Case Settles for $65,000
In March 2019, a case was settled with Kleen Products, Incorporated (Yukon, Oklahoma) for selling a Heavy-duty Hand Soap or Cleaner (nonaerosol) products into California that contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) that exceeded the standard specified in the Consumer Product Regulation, title 17, California Code of Regulations (17 CCR) section 94509(a). This product also contained a prohibited alkylphenol ethoxylate surfactant (17 CCR section 94509(m)(3)) and did not display a manufacture date (17 CCR section 94512(c)). Kleen Products, Incorporated paid $65,000 in penalties for 2.73 tons of excess VOC emissions, 0.52 tons of a prohibited alkylphenol ethoxylate surfactant, and administrative penalties. To come into compliance, Kleen Products, Incorporated modified the product including reformulation to meet California regulatory requirements.
