Kern Brothers Trucking, Inc. Case Settles for $30,650
Kern Brothers Trucking, Inc. will pay $30,650.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $22,987.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $7,663.00 will go to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. This settlement was reached in June, 2015.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Kern Brothers Trucking, Inc. failed to bring four of their heavy-duty diesel trucks into compliance with the applicable in-use performance standards, failed to properly self-inspect three of their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards, and failed to ensure that nine of their trucks had emissions control labels attached to the engines. ARB documented violations as they related to the Statewide Truck and Bus (STB) Regulation, the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), and the Emission Control Label Program (ECL). To settle the case, Kern Brothers Trucking, Inc. agreed to the $30,650.00 penalty and to comply with PSIP, STB, ECL and other ARB programs.
