Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. Settles for $160,000
In August 2020, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. (Kawasaki), located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, settled a case with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for violations of the Small Off-Road Engines (SORE) Regulation pertaining to replacement engines. Kawasaki self-reported violations of 13 CCR 2403(g)(2)(A)(3), 2403(g)(2)(B), 2403(g)(2)(C), and 2403(g)(2)(A)(2) to CARB. The penalties for Kawasaki in this case are $125 per unit for 1,280 noncompliant SORE replacement engines and missing reports, resulting in a total penalty amount of $160,000. As a part of the settlement, Kawasaki will implement a compliance plan to ensure that they are compliant with California’s SORE regulations.
