Kalmar USA, Inc. Settles for $1,000
In June of 2020, Kalmar USA, Inc. (Kalmar), headquartered in Ottawa, Kansas, settled its case with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Kalmar provides cargo handling solutions and services to ports, terminals, distribution centers and heavy industry. In late 2018, a CARB inspector discovered an uncertified off-road compression ignition engine installed in equipment at a port facility located in California. The subsequent investigation revealed that Kalmar had imported two uncertified off-road compression ignition engines in 2013 in violation of California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2420 (a)(3).
Kalmar cooperated with CARB during the agency’s investigation. The resulting settlement requires the company to pay a $500 per unit penalty resulting in a total penalty of $1,000, to be deposited into the Air Pollution Control Fund. Kalmar agrees that it shall comply with all requirements of the Off-Road CI Regulation, California Code of Regulations, title 13, section 2420 et seq.
