John B. Ewles, Inc., dba Ewles Materials, dba New Rental Co Inc. Case Settles for $20,250

John B. Ewles, Inc., dba Ewles Materials, dba New Rental Co Inc. will pay $20,250.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $15,188.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $5,062.00 will go to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District to fund retrofits and replacements for school buses. This settlement was reached in September, 2015. 

An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that John B. Ewles, Inc., dba Ewles Materials, dba New Rental Co Inc. failed to bring 4 of their heavy duty diesel trucks into compliance with the applicable in-use performance standards and failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and the Truck and Bus (TB) Regulation. To settle the case, John B. Ewles, Inc., dba Ewles Materials, dba New Rental Co Inc. agreed to the $20,250.00 penalty and to comply with PSIP, TB, and other ARB programs.
